Building up Functions of Senior Community Centers: From Infrastructure Expansion to Content Expansion

Abstract
There have been over 65,000 senior community centers (°æ·Î´ç) nationwide in Korea. The centers for senior citizens have not been operating below their functions of leisure and welfare even though they locate near residential areas near to senior citizens. Both infrastructure as well as contents suitable for a variety of needs of the citizens should be expanded to support the functions in the era of population aging. While checking the current state of establishing, utilizing, and supporting the centers, some policies building up function of the centers were suggested in this editorial. The centers should be not just a resting space for a minority of older adults but a place of socially active interaction for a diverse community members in the future.
